2021 Holiday Donation Campaign

Create your strategy to promote your fundraising campaign

Non-profit organizations generally receive more donations during the holidays. How can you best prepare your YMCA this year and optimize for maximum donations?

Start today

Our first suggestion is to start now. We know there will be no shortage of organizations asking for donations this year. It can only help to extend your "donation season" by starting early.

You should be answering these questions that your members or potential donors have:
  • WHY should I donate to the YMCA?
  • WHERE will the money/funds go?
  • HOW do I donate?

Don't Miss the Point!

Make sure you talk about how gathering Donations Today means Better Member Services Tomorrow.

If you can share the story of how one simple donation of $25 can directly contribute to our youth enrichment programs or health and social responsibility, your campaign will be more successful.

Try to showcase (with photos, testimonials, and video) real-life examples of what your YMCA does to improve year to year. Tell the story of how donations help other kids, just like Olivia (with a photo of her), in the after-school program. We believe the community will respond to honest and positive stories of how awesome the YMCA can be for your members.

Website Tools you can use to promote your campaign:

  • Main Slideshow Graphic with Button to Donate

  • Use a Countdown Timer and track your results

  • Don't forget to put a link to DONATE in the main menu of your website

  • Use a pop-up box on your website to remind members that they can support the Y through donations

EXAMPLE DONATION CAMPAIGN PLAN/TIMELINE:

  • This week: Start to send out your first promotional materials. Create an email newsletter, add a donate button to a prime spot in the main menu, and make sure to "tell the story" with your donation page
  • In 2 weeks: Send another email to your list, slideshow image feature, Silent Salesman
  • In 4 weeks: Home page feature or blog article + start a countdown timer
  • In 6 weeks: Social media posts + yBox (pop-up box)
  • A few days before the campaign ends: Round out the campaign with a message like "Last chance to donate to our campaign! Help us reach our goal!"
