Would you like to get MORE donations?
We have some suggestions to improve your process and encourage monetary donations to your YMCA.
1. Use Clearly Defined "Donate" Call-to-Action Buttons
If you'd like to focus website traffic towards Donations, choose your main buttons and call-to-action links to direct people to a "Donate" page with a form. Redundancy is okay. Make sure you have a high-impact button in the top menu and also include donation buttons or graphics prominently on your web pages.
2. Show potential donors how the funds will be used
People can relate to IF and THEN scenarios. Show website visitors the process: "IF I give a donation, THEN it will help my local YMCA expand its Youth Sports Programming." Get specific and tell the story! If little Isabella will benefit from the donations and the expansion of the Youth Sports Programming, show her smiling face and let people know! If the goals are merely monetary, they may not be as impactful. Find ways to showcase what you're looking to do with the Donations from the campaign.
3. Utilize Landing Pages that overview your campaign
Landing Pages are a great way to funnel site visitors through a story that you can control the pace of. If someone clicks on a Facebook Post suggesting them to donate, the logical destination for that link would be a "Donate" page with a form that explains how the campaign funds will help your YMCA.
| Caution: When linking to your campaign, don't just link to your homepage, forcing your site visitors to try to find the donation page themselves. Someone clicking the link was already interested in giving you money, don't make them have to work for it. |
4. Define suggested gift amounts on Donate forms
We've found that people who fill out donation forms, prefer to have pre-determined gift amounts available to choose from. If the only option is to fill-in-the-blank for the amount, it tends to lead to lower donations. If the first suggested donation amount is $25 you are more likely to receive $25 as a minimum donation. Some YMCA's even use $50 as the lowest suggested option! Make sure to still give people the option to give custom amounts, if they wish.
5. Let donors choose between monthly or one-time amounts
Some people will like the option of monthly giving, so they can "set it and forget it." Recurring donations can be a powerful way to bring in regular donations for your YMCA. They only need to submit the form once with their credit card and your Y continually receives the monthly gifts.
